Melissa Ferguson began her career as a teaching assistant in Wright City, Oklahoma in January of 1996. She soon became a teacher and taught alternative education for grades 7-12 at Wright City, before becoming a third grade teacher. After 10 years of service at Wright City, she moved to Tishomingo where she taught for 6 years in grades 3, 4, and 5.
Melissa then entered the world of administration. She was an assistant principal for grades PK-5 in Lone Grove for two years, before returning to Tishomingo as elementary principal. She led the elementary school for 5 years and then made the move to district superintendent in Coleman.
This is Melissa’s first year as Coleman Superintendent. (aka: Lead Learner). Many hats are worn in this new position as she is also the elementary principal as well as a 5th and 6th grade STEM teacher.
Melissa has been married to her husband, Robert, for 31 years. They have three grown sons who are all happily married and have children of their own. They are also the proud grandparents of five sweet grandbabies, Gunner (6), Daniel (3), Cora Lee (7 months), Keon (5 months), and Eli (4 months). Daniel and Eli both live in the Coleman district and will be Wildcats very soon!
When Melissa is not at school, you will find her visiting her grandbabies, and traveling with her husband. Last year, she officially visited the last of the 50 states with a 30th anniversary trip to Hawaii. She has been to several countries including China, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas.
